THE BEIJING IMPERIAL GUARD ICE HOCKEY CLUB

Managed by a dedicated group of expatriate and local parents in the Beijing area, the Beijing Imperial Guard Ice Hockey Club is a not for profit youth ice hockey program that has been in existence since 2007, offering programs grounded in North American and European ice hockey cultures. All Imperial Guard teams are a balanced mix of expatriate players from 8 different countries playing alongside local Chinese players. The Club’s goal is to make ice hockey accessible to as many children as possible in the Beijing area and develop new talent. Imperial Guard coaches strive to cultivate passionate players who firmly believe in the link between individual skills development and teamwork to compete favorably in league and tournament games.

Canadian Coaches Mark Simon and Tom McCabe along with Chinese Coach Shan Lian Hai, provide competitive, house league and learn to “hockey” skate programs for players from ages 4-15 years. The Club is also a founding member of the Beijing Junior Hockey League (BJHL) and fields 3 competitive teams in the league including Tyke (2002 & under), Atom (2000-2001) and Pee Wee (1998-1999) teams. In the recently completed 2009/2010 season, the Atom team won the league championship in their division going undefeated, while the Tyke team came in second. Growing from just 4 teams in the 2008/2009 season, the BJHL expects to field 30 teams this coming season with over 450 players competing in 3 age divisions.

In addition to our participation in the League, Imperial Guard teams also participate in a minimum of 2 tournaments each season and have had great success, winning trophies in Canada, Hong Kong and Beijing and participating in other tournaments in Harbin and Japan.

In April 2011, the Club will be hosting the 2nd Annual Beijing Emperor’s Cup Tournament and invite new teams and hockey players from around the world to participate in one of the largest youth hockey tournaments in Asia.
